Jordan Vogt-Roberts has become quite the success story in Hollywood as of late. Earlier this year, he was responsible for Kong: Skull Island, a terrific monster movie that ties in with other forthcoming films in the "monsters" legacy that ties in King Kong, Godzilla and others.

But for his next project, Vogt-Roberts is taking on something far more ambitious – the film adaptation of Konami's hit Metal Gear Solid series. And it's not a job that came easily.

Speaking with IGN during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Vogt-Roberts was originally told that the Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation wouldn't happen when he tried to put it on the table. "There was a Metal Gear book on an executive's desk and I was like, 'I want to do that, you have that?' and they said, 'You can't do that.'"

But Vogt-Roberts wasn't ready to give up, so he spent the next three months putting together a "bible" that showed off his true knowledge of the Metal Gear franchise, and also discussed how previous video game adaptations to films went wrong. He also explained how it was all about translating the "active experience" of a game into the "passive experience" of watching a film. He even noted at the conclusion of his "bible" that "I don't care if you take any of these ideas and do not hire me. All I want in my life is to see a great Metal Gear movie."

But it turns out persistence pays off, as Sony eventually hired him to direct the forthcoming adaptation. "I can almost guarantee you there is not a single person in this town that knows more about this franchise and that it means more to," he noted.

That said, the film is still a ways off, as Vogt-Roberts is still in the midst of pre-production work on it. But there's a very good suggestion on who to cast for the role of Solid Snake, so Vogt-Roberts has that going for him.

We'll let you know what information for the film comes down the line in the months ahead. In the meantime, go rent (or buy) Kong: Skull Island!
