If you loved everything about Breath of the Wild, and you just can't seem to satiate your craving for The Legend of Zelda's legendary gameplay, we have some good news for you. Apparently, work on the next The Legend of Zelda game has already begun. This, according to a comment from series producer Eiji Aonuma in a just-released Breath of the Wild book. While we do not have the book in our possession, Source Gaming has been sharing loads of images and excerpts from the book, and dropped casually dropped the bomb:

SC follows up by reminding everyone that work on Breath of the Wild started shortly after Skyward Sword launched, so it doesn't seem very far-fetched to think that the next game is in the works. This doesn't mean that the gears of development are already turning, mind you; to say that work on the game has begun could mean almost anything. It could mean storyboards, concept art, brainstorming sessions, hiring... Really, guys, we're likely years away from seeing this game come to fruition, but it is oddly comforting to know that it's in the works.

Alternatively, there's always a chance that by "next Legend of Zelda" Aonuma was referring to smaller project; something for the Nintendo 3DS, or a smaller project for the Nintendo Switch in the same vein as A Link Between Worlds or TriForce Heroes. It would be strange indeed if we saw absolutely nothing of Link until the next mainline Nintendo Switch game, so Aonuma's comment could have been referring to any Legend of Zelda game.

We've reached out to the folks at Source Gaming for clarification. If possible, we'd love to see the actual quote as it is in the book, and get the closest we can to a proper translation in context. As soon as we hear back we'll let you guys know what it says and, more importantly, what it means. Stay tuned!
