Ever since its release in May, Bethesda's reboot of Prey has grown into quite the niche title, even though it isn't the best-seller that the publisher was hoping it would be. Still, it's made the most out of it, offering up an Opening Hour demo, where players could check out the beginning on the house to see what the game is all about. Now, the publisher appears to be expanding that.

It has announced that the Opening Hour demo has now been replaced by a full trial, which essentially gives you access to the full game, but with a few restrictions in place. This basically enables you to try out more of what it's all about – and what's more, you don't need to re-download it on consoles.

On top of that, the trial is finally available on PC, which is good news considering it was only previously available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Now even more players can check it out and see how beautifully it runs on a PC format.

Bethesda also made it clear that any progress made in the trial version of the game will carry over into the final release, including Achievements and Trophies, as well as your save progress. So you won't need to worry about starting all over again, and can jump right back in to battling the icky aliens that are infesting your space.

It's a good chance for players to try the game out for themselves and see what they might have missed, since some negative reviews have left them a little skeptical. You can also get a good idea of what the trial is about from the newly released trailer above, which asks if you've been fighting the alien invasion. It's a good glimpse into what you can test drive now.

There's no word yet if Bethesda will adapt to this system for future games, like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus or The Evil Within II, but it's a novel approach that could pay off with more interest in those titles. We'll see what comes of it.

Prey is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
