If you haven’t played Little Nightmares, you’re missing out on one of the most genuinely creepy games to come along in a while. In my review of the game I called Little Nightmares “a brief, yet potent jolt to the system,” praising out its inspired art direction and foreboding atmosphere. Well, turns out I’m not the only person who dug the game โ€“ Joe and Anthony Russo, the sibling directing team behind Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Avengers: Infinite War are also fans of Little Nightmares! In fact, they’re making it into a TV show.

According to The Hollywood Reported, the Russo brothers will produce and develop Little Nightmares for the small screen and Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick will helm the first episode (and possibly more). With Selick aboard, it seems Little Nightmares may be a stop-motion animation project, but The Hollywood Reporter doesn’t confirm that.

In addition to the Russos, Little Nightmares will be produced by Dmitri M. Johnson and Stephan Bugaj of DJ2 Entertainment, who are bringing other games like Life is Strange, We Happy Few, and Sonic the Hedgehog to the screen. Expect them to snap up the rights to even more games, soon.

Here’s how Little Nightmares developer Tarsier Studios describes the game’s world:

“Trapped in the darkest depths of The Maw, starving and alone, Six’s world is one filled with danger. Most children would have already given up, but Six is different. She’s smart, and tough, and has a lovely yellow raincoat. She belongs elsewhere. Confront your childhood fears in this darkly whimsical tale of Six and The Maw. Trapped in this grim world with nothing but her wits and a lighter, Six must find light in the darkness and strength in her weakness if she is to survive.

Explore a disturbingly charming dollhouse that is both a prison and a playground. Part dream, part nightmare, every step through The Maw feels like a leap, and every shadow a vast darkness! Reconnect with your inner child, and unleash your imagination to stay out of harm’s way. In this oversized world you must be smart, resourceful and ready for anything, for even the smallest doubt can lead to a fatal misstep.”

Little Nightmares is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The new Little Nightmares: Secrets of the Maw DLC will be available in July.
