The Castlevania successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night now has an E3 trailer released just before the big conference to show some new areas and enemies.

Released by publisher 505 Games, the trailer for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night showcases some side-scrolling combat that's certainly reminiscent of the classic Castlevania games, just as it should, seeing how it's made by Castlevania creator Koji "IGA" Igarashi. While it may not be too much of a surprise that it's stayed true to the Castlevania formula, it's reassuring to have something both new and familiar to be found in the game.

The new trailer navigates players through more of the 18th-century gothic layout that Bloodstained encompasses as the protagonist Miriam whips, slides, and stabs here way through enemies while also being able to absorb their powers to incorporate some RPG elements.

As the trailer proceeds through a new church setting, it eventually brings players to another newly unveiled component, a boss fight with a blood-flinging enemy known as Bloodless. The boss dishes out blood-themed attacks that players must dodge within the tight quarters of the boss fight. This might not be the final form of Bloodless, though, as the game still has work to be done before it's released, but Igarashi said in an update on the game's Kickstarter page that fans will be able to play through the areas shown in the trailer during a hands-on demo at E3.

We will be bringing a new playable demo to this year's E3. What you see here is part of the church stage, where you will be able to play the bell tower area of the map—it's a very nostalgic theme. The boss that awaits the player is a vampiric mistress, Bloodless, whose appearance might be altered in the future.

In the trailer, we've added areas from the stages we've shown previously to demonstrate new visual changes to improve the gameplay experience. We will be picking up our development pace from here, but this is what our current development looks like.

The game was originally planned for several consoles including the Wii U, but it was later announced on the game's Kickstarter page that the Wii U version would be dropped to work towards a Nintendo Switch version instead. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is planned to be released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation Vita.
