The Castlevania animated series has already swept the gaming and pop cultures as a phenomenon. The Netflix Original series from Frederator Studios makes its debut today, and apparently Netflix is so excited about where the series is going, it's decided to go ahead and renew Castlevania for a second season. Not only that, it's been ordered that Season 2 will contain eight episodes, double the number of episodes in this inaugural season. Let the darkness consume you!
"Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar."
The lineup of writers and producers is legendary. Everyone involved in this project has a storied past and loaded resume. Warren Ellis has played an undeniable role in shaping the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe and Tony Stark's most influential story arc; Fred Seibert is a legendary cartoonist perhaps best known for Adventure Time; Adi Shankar has been trusted with some of nerddom's most sacred heroes and stories and turned them into incredibly compelling shorts -- he's also going to be producing an original Assassin's Creed anime as well.
We obviously don't know anything about what the second season will focus on in terms of story. Hell, we still have the entire first season to work through with nothing more than the synopsis to go off of. Needless to say, it's going to be a long weekend full of macabre action.
Are you planning to binge through the entire first season along with us? If you do, then be sure to chime in on our Discord chat channel and tell us what you thought about it. We're there daily chatting about all things gaming and gaming culture. Stop by and say hello.
