Last week Injustice 2 pulled the curtain back on Fighter Pack 2, which adds three more characters including Raiden, Black Manta, and Hellboy. NetherRealm also revealed Black Manta would be the first of the three characters released.

Black Manta being in Injustice 2 wasn’t exactly a huge revelation, as the character was teased in a pretty obvious way back in May. Heck, the character even makes a cameo appearance during Aquaman’s Super Move animation. I mean, having Aquaman in a game without Black Manta is kind of like having Batman without the Joker. The two are kind of a package deal. A couple days after revealing Aquaman, Injustice 2 producer Ed Boon revealed this first look at Black Manta in action:

Black Manta Gameplay Reveal
As you can see, Black Manta mirrors his nemesis Aquaman in some ways, but he has plenty of his own unique skills as well. Black Manta looks like he could be a beast, as he’s fast, can deal out combos with the best of them, has some powerful-looking long range attacks, and he can fly. Hopefully he has some weaknesses, otherwise he’s going to upend the competitive scene in a big way.
As for his Super Move, it isn’t quite as elaborate or imaginative as some we’ve seen, but it makes up for that with straight-up brutality. Black Manta skewers his opponent with his trident, shoots them with his rocket launch, then drags them back in with a harpoon and disintegrates them with his eye lasers. Ouch!
Injustice 2‘s second Fighter Pack will available to purchase on September 12, with Black Manta being available to download on the same day. We don’t have dates for Raiden or Hellboy yet, but expect a additional character to be released every month or so.
Injustice 2 is currently available on Xbox One and PS4. You can check out WWG’s extensive coverage of the game, right here.
