Even though the Hitman series has seen some rough times over the past few months, especially with Square Enix giving up ownership of the series, the developers at Io Interactive seem to be bouncing back, stronger than ever.

The company recently announced the availability of the new Game of the Year Edition of Hitman: The Complete First Season, which comes with a new four-mission campaign, along with extra weapons, suits and challenges, along with the return of Elusive Targets. Those of you that own the game already can download the additional content for $19.99 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

But where does the Hitman series go from here? According to Io, onward. Speaking in a blog post, CEO Hakan Abkar noted, "Five months ago, I posted an open letter to let you know that Io-Interactive had become an independent studio once again. We've kept intentionally quiet since then, because we needed to focus inwards at what we want IOI to stand for, in terms of our employees, our culture and our ambitions and dreams for the future. It's been hard and challenging work, but also incredibly exciting as we lay the foundations for a new start for this special studio."

But then he noted what the studio was working on next – a new Hitman game. "One last thing about our next Hitman game; I want to let you know that we're making great progress and we have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which we can't wait to tell you all about. You'll have to wait a little longer as we don't plan to start talking about that until some point in 2018."

He also expressed "continued support and love" for fans of the game, as they've been playing in droves, even with the departure from the team at Square Enix.

While it would be nice to have new information, it's great to see that Agent 47 will return to action sooner rather than later.

You can check out Hitman: Game of the Year Edition for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC now.
