The NPD Group have released their sales data for July, and it’s good news for Nintendo, as they topped both the hardware and software charts. After slipping into second place in June due to supply constraints, the Nintendo Switch vaulted back into first spot, and its latest exclusive, Splatoon 2, is number one on the software charts.

Overall, July was a good month, with spending up across the board โ gamers spent $588 million in July, which is up 19 percent from July 2016. Here’s NPD’s assessment of the month:
“Total video game spending in July 2017, which includes hardware, software and accessories, grew 19 percent versus year ago to $588m. The launch of Splatoon 2 on the Nintendo Switch, and month 2 sales of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy drove software gains, while new supply of Nintendo Switch and continued strength of PlayStation 4 pushed hardware higher. Three of the month’s top seven best-selling games are published by Nintendo. Nintendo was also the best-selling software publisher in July.”

In addition to Splatoon 2, fellow Switch games The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 also continue to do well. ARMS, on the other hand, has dropped pretty hard. In non-Nintendo news, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Injustice 2 are showing strong legs, and, of course, Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a phenomenon. Oh, and there wasn’t a single Call of Duty or Battlefield game in the top 10 โ don’t see that often!
