Changes for Udyr are being explored to help put the jungler in a better spot, but so far, it looks like the Spirit Walker isn't having much luck when it comes to finding out what to do with him. He had quite a few changes listed in the PBE recently, all of which have been reverted, making this the second time recently that changes have been tested and pulled back.

Through his first set of changes on the PBE as reported by Surrender@20, Udyr had his Turtle and Bear Stances changes to increase his speed and shielding power. The most recent set of changes were a much larger overhaul of his abilities, but those changed didn't hold up according to some context from Riot Games' Meddler.

"We don't yet have enough confidence in the Udyr direction, in particular how much he should/shouldn't be split pushed focused," Meddler recently wrote in a reply to a question within his Gameplay Thoughts update. "Needs more discussion and testing, particularly if it's to be released in this period."

Below are the larger changes that were being tested for the jungler:

  • Inner Beast (P) reworked - "When Udyr changes stances during combat, he gains 4% attack speed, 4% cooldown reduction, and 6% base attack damage for 7 seconds (effect stacks up to 5 times)"
  • Tiger Stance (Q):
    • Attack speed duration increased from 5 to 6 seconds.
    • DOT Damge changed from [30-150 + (120%-160% total AD)] to [78/126/174/222/270 (+90% bonus AD]
    • DOT duration increased from 2 seconds to 6 seconds.
    • [new effect] DoT deals +6% damage for each Inner Beast (Passive) stack Udyr has at time of application.
    • [removed] DoT no longer deals clipped portion's damage as a burst if DOT is refreshed.
  • Phoenix Stance (R):
    • Active duration increased from 4 to 6.
    • Flame Aura :
      • Damage changed from 40/80/120/160/200 to 60/90/120/150/180
      • Scaling changed from [100% AP] to [120% Bonus AD].
    • Fire Cone:
      • Damage changed from 40/80/120/160/200 to 50/75/100/125/150
      • Scaling changed from [45% AP] to [30/40/50/60/70% bonus AD]
    • [new effect] Fire cone deals +6% damage for each Inner Beast stack Udyr has.

Senior analyst Rick Maher also added context to the Udyr changes saying that they were in need of more testing and validation and added that more specific tests and changes for Udyr will be coming soon, but that they aren't in a hurry to push something that might not suit the champ well.

With the way that he's being looked at, changes to Udyr are certainly on the way, though it might be a patch or two before we see him back in the jungle again.
