Lego Marvel just dropped a big bomb for Marvel fans. In a surprise announcement made on its Twitter this morning, Lego announced a new Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 video game, which will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The 15 second teaser trailer showed Baby Groot running through a battlefield and dodging debris. Both Green Goblin and Iron Man flew by in split-second cameos, which seemingly confirms that this game will feature more than just characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A press release for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 revealed that Kang the Conqueror will be the main villain of the new game. Players will travel from Ancient Egypt to the Old West to the alien planet Sakaar to the distant future of 2099. Kang’s home base of Chronopolis will also feature prominently in the game. Playable characters confirmed for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 include Thor, Hulk, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Green Goblin, Spider-Man 2099, and Cowboy Captain America. Dozens of other Marvel heroes and villains will presumably be revealed in the coming months.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 will also have a four player multiplayer mode, which will allow player to either compete against each other in a “battling mode” or cooperate to clear missions. The game will also have a unique branching storyline and the ability for characters to actually manipulate time within the game.
The game will be released on November 14, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version doesn’t have a firm release date outside of “holiday 2017.” A full-length trailer will be released on May 23rd.
