I’ve known for a long time that Pokken Tournament would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Not because I have an insider feeding me information, but because it was a fantastic, under-appreciated game on the Wii U that absolutely deserves an enormous audience. We got to peep some new footage during the initial reveal trailer, but now we have some additional gameplay footage courtesy of some promotional b-roll that will be used for the tournaments at E3 next week. Check it out:

So this new footage gives us a great look at most of our new Pokemon in action, with the exception of Decidueye, who is sadly missing from the action. Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and Darkrai, however, all get a little time in the spotlight and we get to see them strutting their stuff in duel phase and in field phase. We even get our first look (outside of Japanese arcades) at their burst moves.

We wrapped up all five new fighters with a little bit of information on each of them right here. Be sure to check it out if you missed the initial announcement trailer, which can also be found in the wrap-up.

For those of you about to play Pokken Tournament for the first time in Pokken Tournament DX, we envy you very much. It’s no secret that the game was meant to be a brand new way to play Pokemon as well as a new way to play fighting games. The creative minds behind Tekken, Soul Calibur, and Pokemon all worked together to create Pokken Tournament, so you can imagine what kind of insane witch’s brew it turned out to be.

As a lifelong fighting game fan, I can tell you honestly that Pokken Tournament turned out to be one of my favorite games on the Wii U, and one of my favorite fighting games period. Do not pass this one up when it launches on Nintendo Switch on September 16. More Pokken Tournament DX coverage to come in the days ahead, so stay tuned!
