For a while now, EA has consistently debunked fan claims that the ongoing Project Rene was The Sims 5. Instead, the game is expected to live alongside The Sims 4 as a separate project with a mobile and multiplayer focus. However, as the team at EA turns its attention to fixing lingering bugs and glitches in The Sims 4, rumors about a remaster for the game have emerged. Now, new intel suggests not only the theme for the next major expansion, but that it might well be the last one.

This information comes via the popular Sims news site Sims Community, which rounded up details from several prominent leakers to paint a picture of what we can expect from The Sims 4 in 2026. None of the rumors are confirmed, but they allegedly outline the next and perhaps last major expansion for The Sims 4. On top of that, insiders suggest that there are no plans for another expansion following the 21st, which will likely release next year.
The Sims 4 Insiders Suggest Next Expansion Will Be Royalty-Themed

First, let’s break down what the rumors are saying about the next major Sims 4 expansion. The 2025 roadmap wrapped up with the Adventure Awaits expansion, which dropped in early October. Since then, EA has turned its focus to a few smaller kits alongside major patches and updates to resolve issues in the aging game. The team behind The Sims 4 has yet to give any official details about the next expansion, but some insiders think they know what it will be.
On December 23rd, @phii_oda, a Sims insider with a decent track record, shared some alleged details about the next expansion. The creator said, “EP21 is focused on royalty with three kingdom types.” This sounds like a sort of in-game reimagining of The Sims Medieval, a spinoff game that released in 2011. This was a niche but beloved entry in The Sims franchise, and I know fans like me would be happy to see it make a modern comeback, if this rumor is true.
That said, the supposed royalty pack does sound fairly atypical as a Sims 4 main series expansion. The “three kingdoms” comment seems to suggest the expansion would add multiple worlds at once, whereas most expansions add just one. However, @phii_oda has previously leaked information that wound up being accurate, so it’s certainly possible they do have inside information. For now, though, Simmers should take this info with a grain of salt and not start mapping out their new Sims 4 royal line just yet. It’s likely EA will share any plans about the next Sims 4 expansion in early 2026.
The Sims 4 “Major Content is Done” According to Insider

In addition to leaking supposed information about the next kit, @phii_oda and a few other Sims 4 insiders suggest the game is winding down. “Expect only updates and kits after EP21,” the influencer notes. This would be in direct contrast to statements from EA, which have continued to state that The Sims 4 will be the future of the franchise. However, additional sources have also implied that the game is winding down.
Prior leaks from an anonymous source suggest that the team at EA is working on a remaster of The Sims 4. If that’s the case, the game could still be the future of the franchise… just not in its current form. And that might also mean that more new content is on the way, but will be held until it can be released alongside a remastered version. EA has not confirmed that any such project is in the works, so at this point it remains merely speculation.
Aside from ongoing efforts to improve the base game and fix longstanding glitches, EA hasn’t shared much about the future of The Sims 4 in the latter part of the year. We did get a new SpongeBob SquarePants-themed set of kits and a few other minor releases, but mostly, the last updates have been focused on fixes. If prior release patterns hold, we should expect some new expansions in 2026. But if these rumors are to be believed, it may be fewer than fans have grown accustomed to in prior years.
