Multiple Nintendo Switch 2 Games Get Surprise Discounts from GameStop

When Nintendo Switch 2 launched back in June, it got a lot of negative attention due to its price point, and the cost of Mario Kart World. If you skipped out on buying other launch games as a result of spending too much on day one, you might be happy to know that several of the system’s launch games are already on sale for $10 off, with the discounts now live at GameStop’s website. These all appear to be temporary price drops, and they also coincide with an overall sale related to Sega games across multiple platforms. The following Switch 2 games are on sale right now:

In addition to these Switch 2 games, GameStop has also dropped the price for the Switch 1 versions of Sonic x Shadow Generations ($29.99 from the normal $49.99), and RAIDOU Remastered ($39.99 from the normal $49.99). Both of these games can still be played on Switch 2, but Sega has not offered an upgrade path for either, meaning that if you do choose to buy the Switch 1 versions, you won’t have the option of buying a discounted upgrade later on down the line. Sega seems to be getting a little more flexible on that with upcoming releases like Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. However, the company’s original wave of Switch 2 games did not offer the option, and that was a pretty big source of frustration among many existing Switch users.

Nintendo Switch 2 owners should keep in mind that all of these are on Game-Key Cards, which have similarly caused some controversy over the last two months. However, if you’re someone that doesn’t have any issue with these types of cartridges, this is a way to get some Sega games for cheaper than normal. Of these games, Yakuza 0 is easily the highlight, and it’s a particularly great option for those interested in checking out Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, both of which are set to be released on Switch 2 later this year. Even if you’ve never played a game in the series before, Yakuza 0 is a pretty great starting point.

GameStop notes that this sale is on “while supplies last,” so any Switch 2 owners hoping to take advantage of these discounts should do so while everything remains in stock. The first year of a new video game system’s lifespan can be pretty hard on the wallet, so any chance there is to grab some games on the cheap can be pretty nice. It just might help people discover a game they might not have checked out otherwise!
