Pokemon Go has offered up a mea culpa to players at Pokemon Go Fest. Niantic has extended the spawn radius of Unown and Heracross for the rest of the weekend. Instead of only spawning at Grant Park, these rare Pokemon will now spawn for up to two miles away from Pokemon Go Fest for the rest of the weekend. Pokemon Go Fest’s special eggs will also be distributed from all PokeStops.

For those living in Chicago, that means that Heracross and Unown will be available from the Navy Pier to Willis Tower to Soldier Field. The spawns and extended bonuses will last through Monday morning but will only be available to players who attended Pokemon Go Fest.

Heracross and Unown were supposed to be some of the perks for attending Pokemon Go Fest. However, a variety of problems plagued the event, which eventually forced Niantic to refund everyone’s tickets and offer them $100 worth of PokeCoins.

Heracross usually spawns in Central and South America (and parts of Florida and Texas,) meaning that it would usually be impossible for US players to get without traveling. While Unown isn’t a regional-exclusive Pokemon, it’s usually quite rare. According to at least one report, Pokemon Go Fest was supposed to have Unown that spelled out “CHICAGO” but no one picked up on it due to all the technical problems.

Despite the issues, Pokemon Go is still moving forward with the rest of the event, including a planned Legendary Raid at 6 PM Central Time. We’ll have more coverage of Pokemon Go Fest for the rest of the evening, so keep following.
