Pokemon Go is about to turn a year old, which is kind of crazy considering everything the game has already achieved. Sometimes it feels like the mega-popular mobile game has always been with us!
With Pokemon Go's July 6 birthday drawing near, developer Niantic has announced they've crushed another massive milestone, as the game has surpassed 750 million downloads. It should be noted that a large portion of those downloads, 500 million of them, occurred during the game's first two months on the market when Pokemon Go mania was at its height. That said, an additional 250 million downloads over the following nine months is nothing to sneeze at. Pokemon Go isn't just a fad – it's clear the game has some real legs.
As we've previously reported, Pokemon Go plans to spread out its birthday celebrations over the next couple months with Pokemon Go Fest, the game's first official real-world event, and the more-traditional Solstice Event. Here's how Niantic describes Pokemon Go Fest:
"Trainers from around the world will flock to Chicago's Grant Park for a Pokémon Go Fest. The fun-filled day of Pokémon Go in the park will give Trainers the chance to meet fellow players and engage in a variety of activities."
Meanwhile, here's the rundown of the Solstice Event.
"Trainers can expect increased encounter rates for some of their favorite Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon, including Charmander, Cyndaquil, Houndour, Swinub, Sneasel, and their Evolutions, and others. Trainers will also be awarded increased XP for in-game actions like Curveballs, Nice Throws, Great Throws, Excellent Throws, and more, and Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop."
Pokemon Go's Solstice Event runs from June 13 to June 20, and Pokemon Go Fest happens on July 22.
