Pokemon Fans Think Nintendo Just Teased New Releases of Gold and Silver

Pokemon fans believe that Nintendo could have just teased that new versions of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver will be releasing in the future. In the wake of Nintendo porting Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen to Switch and Switch 2 platforms earlier this year, Pokemon fans have been making it known that they’d like to see more entries from the past return on modern hardware. And while reports indicate that this could soon be happening with Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, some are now under the assumption that Gold/HeartGold and Silver/SoulSilver could be getting this same treatment as well.

The “tease” in question came on social media, where Nintendo posted an image from this year’s hugely successful game Pokemon Pokopia. The picture happened to recreate an early moment from Pokemon Gold and Silver, where the player character (known canonically as Ethan) is watching their soon-to-be rival (Silver) staring through the window of Professor Elm’s lab. Nintendo posted this alongside a caption that directly mentioned the words silver and gold, which made it clear that this wasn’t an accident. Naturally, the post ended up blowing up, garnering over 3 million impressions at the time of this writing, with many saying that they believe this could be an indication of Nintendo doing something new with Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver.

Is This a Tease of New Gold and Silver Ports or Remasters?

So is this image proof that Nintendo is about to bring back Gold and Silver? Well, almost certainly not. Nintendo followed up its viral post with a response encouraging people to recreate their own “memorable moments” for themselves in Pokemon Pokopia. As such, this is clearly just a clever ad for Pokopia, and nothing else.

Still, many fans asserted that Nintendo shouldn’t have even tapped into this nostalgia for Gold and Silver when marketing Pokopia, as it gives the wrong impression. Not only did many feel somewhat baited by initially seeing the image, but others were frustrated by the reminder that the Poke Bank will shutting down in 2027, making it impossible to bring over Pokemon that were caught in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

“The fact that you would even do this when you know how much your fans want a Gold and Silver remake is diabolical,” said user @AustinStern1 of the post.

Even if Pokemon Gold and Silver aren’t on tap to get a new release soon, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen further down the road. As mentioned, in the near future, reports claim that Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald will soon be getting ports of their own on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. While the existence of these ports have yet to be verified, they could roll out at some point in either September or October, which suggests that they could be unveiled soon.
