New PS5 Controller Divides PlayStation Fans

A new PS5 controller set to release later this year has divided PlayStation fans. With the PS5 generation, Sony surprised everyone by abandoning the DualShock, the controller it has been iterating on since the PS1. In its place, it introduced the DualSense. At the time, many were dubious of this call from Sony; however, over time, PlayStation fans have come to appreciate the DualSense. The newest model is another story, though.

Back in July, Sony announced a limited-edition console and controller for Ghost of Yotei. Fast-forward, and pre-orders go live this week on September 4. For those that do not know, Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, out on PS5 and PS5 Pro on October 2. It is the next big PlayStation exclusive game, hence why it is getting a limited-edition console and controller. PlayStation fans are uncertain of the design of both, though, especially the latter.

“Not For Me”

Over on Reddit, there is a post highlighting that pre-orders are going live on September 4, and the replies are all about the design of the new controller and console. And a good number of replies are not impressed with either, but especially the controller.

“They’re probably just not for me, but so many of these limited design controllers are so ugly,” reads the most popular reply to the post. “I just don’t understand the market for them. It’s weird because so many of the PS5 colored controllers look so nice too.”

Another reply about the controller reads: “It looks like someone smeared s*** on the controller.”

It is worth noting, though, that some of the replies are positive; these replies are just not as common as the negative replies.

“One of the very few designs I actually like, will try for one, but at the same time I wonโ€™t be disappointed if I donโ€™t get one,” reads an example of a counter reply.

Those who agree with the latter, and who are interested in the controller, can either get it as part of the larger bundle or purchase it by itself for $84.99. That said, pre-orders don’t go live until September 4, and if you need a new controller right now, this won’t be an effective purchase because the controller won’t ship until the game ships in October.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Will you be picking up this special edition PS5 controller?
