A few days ago, we posted the news that the team at Replicade Amusements had launched a KickStarter to make a miniature, fully functioning Centipede arcade cabinet, complete with mini trackball, 3.5 inch LCD screen, and cabinet design similar to the original coin-op machine. We wished them the best of luck, but they didn't need it, as they managed to eclipse their KickStarter goal with relative ease.

It's actually managed to double it, with 22 days to spare, reaching over $105,000 -- $55,000 over its initial goal. With that, the team has decided to celebrate in the best way possible, by announcing yet another game in the Replicade line-up.

This time, it's Tempest, the classic 80's vector shooting arcade game from Atari, in which you move around a little cursor in an enclosed area, shooting at enemies that come floating up at you from the center of the stage. This was considered one of the more popular games to come out of the era, so seeing a miniature version – and fully playable one at that – is a dream come true. We can't wait to put one of these on our desks. (Get your own, other staffers!)

Tempest 2

"We are excited to do Tempest next as this is a New Wave Toys favorite," the team proclaimed on its KickStarter page. "We can't wait to show you the miniaturized Spinner controls we are working on! The best part is all backers will receive a generous discount code for the Tempest presell later this year."

The mini-machine will likely be available sometime in 2018, since Replicade needs to finish work on the Centipede unit first. After that, who knows? We could be looking at other mini games to come down the line, maybe even ones based on classics like Asteroids and Missile Command. You could even set up your own mini arcade if you wanted. Who needs quarters?!

We'll let you know more details on Tempest as soon as we get them. In the meantime, if you want your own Centipede mini-unit, head on over to the KickStarter page and order it up. You've still got a few weeks, so jump in for some retro kicks!

Don't forget that Tempest 4000 is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this holiday season as well. It's everywhere!
