Milla Jovovich may have wrapped up her role as superpowered ass-kicker Alice with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but she definitely isn’t done speaking her mind about the franchise. Upon hearing Resident Evil will be getting a six-movie reboot from producer James Wan, Jovovich dropped a rather icy “Okay, well good luck with that,” and now she’s dishing dirt about the time she almost quit the series.

In an interview with Inverse, Jovovich let slip that she almost walked away from Resident Evil before the franchise had even begun. Why? Because she was jealous of co-star Michelle Rodriguez.

“I almost quit the movie. I was shooting something else, and Paul W. S. Anderson had hired Michelle Rodriguez to play Rain, and she had just come off Girlfight and there was Oscar buzz. She was very hot at that moment, and my hotness had sort of been already four years old by that point. So, Paul rewrote the script for her. She got all my big action scenes and she became like Alice. Alice became this tagalong.”

But wait, that’s not how the movie plays out! Resident Evil is definitely a Milla Jovovich star vehicle, with Rodriguez being very much the sidekick. Well, that’s because Jovovich put her foot down, hard, and made Anderson change the script backโ€ฆ

“I got to the hotel and said, ‘We have to have a big talk or I’m going to be on a flight tomorrow morning.’ So, Paul ended up coming over that evening and we literally sat for three hours and went through the script, page by page. He was like, ‘What do you mean? This didn’t change that much?’ So, I was like, ‘Okay, why don’t we start with page one?’ I pointed out every time I felt like my great scenes were taken away. That was how we started our relationship.”

It’s hard to say what might have happened if Rodriguez had been the star of Resident Evil, but one thing I do know โ€“ you do not cut Milla Jovovich‘s lines. Well, unless you want to end up marrying her like Anderson did. In which case, maybe you should?

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital platforms.
