SNK has been known for working its magic on a number of fighting franchises, most recently King of Fighters XIV, which is currently making the rounds on PlayStation 4 and PC. But new rumors are circling that points at the team bringing back one of its bigger bits for another go-around.

A site called King of Fighters World has recently noted that the company could be hard at work on its all-star fighting game Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum. The original game first appeared in arcades way back in 2005, and then found its way to both PlayStation 2 and an Xbox Live Arcade release (on Xbox 360), but we haven't heard anything from the series since.

The site noted the following when it came to the rumored sequel:

"The rumor which appeared in a Japanese in a series of Images (Seen here), also adds that the game will feature cell shaded graphics similar to Guilty Gear Xrd, or the upcoming Dragon Ball Fighter Z. From the story side, it seem SNK is trying to come up with a coherent story, something that the first game lacked. [In this rumored sequel], a mysterious character is trying to gather powers from all the famous SNK characters throughout history, and so warriors from different times and locations will gather to fight this unknown force."

There's no question that SNK poured a lot of effort into King of Fighters XIV, so if any series is primed to get an equal amount of attention, it's Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum 2. That said, the game is only rumored for now, as the publisher hasn't said a word. However, there's always a good chance it could announce the game down the road, especially with the PlayStation Experience event right around the corner in December. (King of Fighters XIV was previously featured heavily at past Experience events.)

We'll have to see what SNK is up to, but the company did note that it was looking into making other games from its Neo-Geo library, so a sequel to Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum doesn't seem too far-fetched.

If you need a fighting fix, be sure to check out The King of Fighters XIV now for PlayStation 4 and PC.
