There's been a lot of talk about Square Enix dabbling in its classic PlayStation 2 game collection for re-release on PlayStation 4 – since a lot of games are getting that lately. But starting next week, it'll be ready to start putting these releases into action, and it's beginning with a pretty big one.

The company has announced that it will release Star Ocean: Till the End of Time for PlayStation 4 this Tuesday, on May 23rd. The game initially launched back on the PlayStation 2 in February 2003 and became a notable seller for the company, thanks to Tri-Ace's development savvy and a battle system that grew on long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Star Ocean has actually been out for a good while on the PlayStation 4 in Japan, but, like most of its games, Square Enix spent a good amount of time on the game's localization, so that it would have the same classic vibe as the PlayStation 2 game that preceded it.

Along with the classic gameplay and graphics that we've come to expect from this chapter of the series, the game will also have some new additions. Till the End of Time will include Trophy support, along with PlayStation 4 Share functionality and Remote Play support.

Ah, but there's a catch. This won't be priced like the usual $9.99 PlayStation 2-to-PlayStation 4 fare you've seen in the past. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time will sell for a whopping $21. That's a bit jacked up compared to other stuff – including this past week's releases of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland – but some fans will no doubt feel that it's worth the purchase.

Plus, if it's successful, Square Enix may be motivated enough to release other PS2 classics on the PlayStation 4, including possibly the Xenosaga titles. We'll have to see just what its plan is when E3 rolls around next month.

In the meantime, if you're a Star Ocean fan, be sure to dig in when the game releases next week. After all, it never hurts to get back into a classic role-playing game that you can know and trust – even if it isn't necessarily Final Fantasy.
