The beta version of the game is scheduled to be released pretty soon with the opening date falling on Oct. 4 if you choose to preorder the game, just a month before its November release date. Within the official announcement from EA’s community manager Jared Petty, details of what players can look forward to in the beta were also revealed, though not everything is being previewed before the beta launches.
For the main mission that’s been detailed that’s being called Galactic Assault on Naboo, players will join either the Separatist droid army or the Republic Clone forces on Theed in a massive 40-player battle. During the battle, players will be able to choose between four different trooper classes to adjust to whatever turns the combat may take, classes that are defined by the announcement below:
- Assault troopers are classic flankers, pushing the line forward and advancing the front.
- Heavy troopers use their high-powered weapons and personal body shields to take ground and hold it.
- Officers power up their teammates with buffs and deploy remote weapons to support their allies.
- Specialists lay traps and snipe from a distance.
Heroes and villains can be controlled as well during the fights, and vehicles from the prequels can be used to navigate the battlefield.
Aside from this main mission, there’s another component of the beta that was teased that was only referred to as the Starfighter Assault mission. As you might expect, this part of the beta will be a fight in space that’s set during the initial trilogy with classic Star Wars ships to pilot. They’ve only discussed the mission briefly, calling it an objective-based, multi-stage battle, but they promise that more information is going to come during Gamescom.
If you preorder Star Wars Battlefront II, you’ll have access to the beta on Oct. 4, two days before the beta opens to all players on Oct. 6. The beta will end on Oct. 9, and the full game is scheduled to be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Nov. 17.
