Super Mario Odyssey Has No Trouble With Its Hero Killing Off The Dinosaurs

While Super Mario may appear to be a noble hero in Super Mario Odyssey, we can't help but think he's got some sort of sadistic side – at least, according to a few players that take control of him.

Case in point – Super Mario Odyssey, the latest adventure for the plumber-who-isn't-a-plumber-anymore. He has no trouble collecting moons and taking control of things with the help of his buddy Cappy, from turtles that throw hammers to fish that can apparently do spin attacks. But perhaps the big thing that you'll be able to control is the Tyrannosaurus Rex that pops up over the course of your adventure.

By throwing his hat on his head, you can control this king of the beasts and stomp around to your heart's content. However, some players have discovered that they can actually lure the beast over a ledge to its death, while Mario hops out unscathed. So meteors didn't kill the dinosaurs – Mario did.

Granted, it's not like the T. Rex is the most knowledgeable creature out there. In this game clip, you can see how easily it's defeated as it chases our hero, and then walks over the lege to its death anyway. Oops.

But this isn't the first instance in which Mario has shown his cruelty to animals. Take Yoshi, for instance. Some devs believe that the ex-plumber was abusing his dino steed like no one's business. And we've seen a number of instances in past games where he let him run off to his death, or jumped off him to gain extra speed when it came to reaching a ledge.

And don't even get us started about how monstrous this guy is around penguins in Super Mario 64. This is just plain brutal.

And finally, of course, we can't dare overlook Mario's early days as an enslaver of animals in Donkey Kong Jr., where he not only captures his former adversary and keeps him in captivity, but commands birds and other creatures to attempt to subdue his son.

Of course, we're kidding. This is all pretty much under the decision of the player (well, okay, maybe not Donkey Kong Jr., but he's learned his lesson since then, right?), and there's no reason why you shouldn't give the brilliant Super Mario Odyssey a go. Just remember, though – if you off any animals, you have to live with it. Besides, would you really be so quick to kill off a T. Rex? Would you?
