Tamagotchi is making a historic return next month, and you can pre-order yours right now.
Bandai America announced that everyone's favorite virtual pets would be making a return after 20 years of obscurity. In that time our original Tamagotchis have found their way into the back of drawers, onto Goodwill shelves, and into dark closet corners, but they have never left our hearts. No, we're still eager as ever to wash away that pixel poop and watch our alien babies grow.
"For many Generation X kids, the Tamagotchi device can be considered America's first and favorite digital pet," says Tara Badie, marketing director for Bandai America. "The enduring power of Tamagotchi is its clear expression that nurturing and love never goes out of style. It's such an honor to bring back one of the most beloved toys in a way that captures the magic and joy of a generation while embracing the sensibilities of new generations."
So are they going to be the exact same? How much will they cost? Where can you order one of your own?
Are they the same? Where can I order?
You'll be happy to know that these new Tamagotchis will function exactly like your original Tamagotchis did in their heyday. While the newer eggs being released next month are slightly smaller in size compared to the originals, the aliens that hatch out of them will be every bit as cute (and needy) as the ones you took care of in 1997.
Cost and Pre-Orders
We were also elated to learn that Bandai won't be charging an arm and a leg for these things, banking on their nostalgia to drive sales. The new Tamagotchis can be yours for about $15, and you can go ahead and pre-order one now ahead of the November 5 launch. They're still in stock and available at Amazon (link here).
We have a feeling that these are going to get harder to find as word spreads of the Tamagotchi's return. Come holiday season these will be the perfect affordable stocking-stuffer, so grab yours while you still can!prevnext
