You may not know the name Sam Barlow, but the fact that he's announced his next game is something you should be pretty excited about. Barlow is one of the best writers and designers in the industry, having directed the hugely-underrated Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and acclaimed indie Her Story.

For those who didn't get a chance to play it, Her Story casts you as a police archivist, searching through footage of a woman who was interviewed seven times back in 1994 about the disappearance of her husband. You enter search terms, get short video clips, and slowly but surely try to piece together this woman's story. Of course, different people may come to different conclusions. Her Story was unique, gripping, and probably the best live-action FMV game ever made.

Well, Barlow has announced he's teaming up with Annapurna Games for this next title, Telling Lies. Like Her Story, Telling Lies will be an interactive live-action movie of sorts, although it will be working with a much larger budget. Expect some name actors to show up in key roles.

We don't have many details about Telling Lies yet, but Barlow says it will be a spiritual successor to Her Story, and will be inspired by classic movies of the 70s.

"Imagine Steve McQueen's Shame mashed up with The Conversation. The 1970s were such a golden age exploring the intersection of government, society and individuals. I'm viewing [writing Telling Lies] in a sculptural way. I'm looking at what happens when you throw a player at it, who can attack it from any number of angles."

This may all sound very artsy fartsy, but trust me, Barlow knows what he's doing – Shattered Memories and Her Story were great games. Keep Telling Lies on your radar.

Filming for Telling Lies should begin later this year with an eye towards a 2018 release.
