Two New Nintendo Switch 2 Games Announced That Will Be Free for Some

Not one, but two new Nintendo Switch 2 games have been announced, and both will be free for some users. Better yet, one of these games is set to release before the end of the month, while the other is aiming to release in December. Both games are currently available on Nintendo Switch, in fact, one just came to the eShop this moth, and both will have free upgrades for those who own either game on Switch.

Between now and the end of the year, Nintendo Switch 2 users have plenty to look forward to with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment slated to release on November 6, Kirby Air Riders set to release on November 20, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond coming on December 4. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A was just released. If you are on Switch 2 and somehow have time to breathe, let alone play something else during this run, then these two new releases may be of interest, as both are quality games.

Factorio

Factorio is actually currently a Nintendo Switch console exclusive. The massively popular construction game meets management game from Czech-based studio Wube Software currently doesn’t have an exact release date, but the developer is aiming to release the Switch 2 version of the game in December.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it was released in 2020 after four years in early access. Since its initial debut almost a decade ago, it has sold over 3.5 million copies and earned a 90 on Metacritic. Unfortunately, the Space Age expansion will not be included with a purchase, but the DLC content is finally coming to Nintendo platforms alongside the Switch 2 port.

In the game, you build and maintain factories, which require mining operations, researching technologies, figuring out ways to automate production, and occasionally fighting enemies who threaten to destroy everything you have spent hours buiding.

Ball x Pit

Ball x Pit is a brick-breaking, base-building survival roguelite from developer Kenny Sun and publisher Devolver Digital. And it was just released on October 15. Two weeks later, on October 28, it will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. Why the Switch 2 version didn’t just ship with the game, we don’t know.

In the game — which boasts an 87 on Metacritic — you play as a treasure hunter looking to find their fortune in the depths of the fallen “Ballbylon” empire. We had lots of praise for the game and how it blends together multiple genres in our official review of it.

As you can see, both games boast impressive Metacritic score, but they aren’t just critical darlings, they are fan favorites as well. To this end, both games have an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, the highest rating a PC game can earn on Steam. This is thanks to Factorio having a 98% approval rating across a massive 109,675 user reviews. Meanwhile, Ball x Pitt has a 95% approval rating across 3,195 user reviews.
