Ubisoft Game Free With Xbox Game Pass Is a Hit With Subscribers

A Ubisoft game that is currently free with Xbox Game Pass is a hit with subscribers, according to the Xbox Game Pass charts. Unfortunately, the Ubisoft game is only on Xbox Game Pass PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and not available via Xbox Game Pass Standard or Xbox Game Pass Core. So, it is only available with 50% of Xbox Game Pass tiers. Meanwhile, how long it is going to be available via Xbox Game Pass, we do not know, but it was only added earlier this month, so subscribers presumably have a good while with the Ubisoft game, which they are taking advantage of.

The Ubisoft game in question is Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which, despite being available via Xbox Game Pass for a few weeks now, is retaining the attention of subscribers. To this end, it is the third most-played game on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate right now, behind only two Xbox games: Gears of War: Reloaded and Grounded 2. Meanwhile, it is ahead of the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Minecraft, Rainbow Six Siege, GTA 5, Forza Horizon 5, and Dead by Daylight. In other words, beyond the trio of games at the top of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate chart, the rest of the top 10 is dominated by older games that have a steady presence on the chart. Considering all the day one games Xbox Game Pass has been adding, it’s a bit surprising not to see more new additions in the top 10. In fact, one of the best PS2 games of all time was just added to Xbox Game Pass, and it’s nowhere near the top of the charts, suggesting subscribers aren’t engaging with new additions as much as the standout titles in the library.

About the Game

While Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not the latest Assassin’s Creed game — the latest is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which released earlier this year — it is the newest and latest Assassin’s Creed game on Xbox Game Pass. The stealth action-adventure game was released in 2023 by Ubisoft Bordeaux as the 13th mainline installment in the series, and the successor to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which it actually began development as an expansion of. Upon release, it garnered a 76 on Metacritic, and it’s understood to have sold around five million units, at least as of 2024.

As our official review of the game notes, what is appealing about Assassin’s Creed Mirage, in particular, is that it is more linear and stealth-focused than the modern RPG games like Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and now Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In other words, it is more like classic Assassin’s Creed games. To this end, if you enjoyed the series before it became an open-world RPG series, you are going to enjoy Assassin’s Creed Mirage. If you enjoy the newer games, you probably aren’t going to find much joy with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which takes players back to 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. This setting will be familiar to those who played the first Assassin’s Creed game.

Those who decide to check out Assassin’s Creed Mirage on Xbox Game Pass should expect to dump about 20 hours into the game to beat it. Meanwhile, completionists will need closer to 30 hours with the Ubisoft game, though this number will increase when the game’s free DLC releases later this year. As long as it is available via Xbox Game Pass, subscribers are spared a $50 purchase and have a 20% off option if they do decide to purchase the game, as long as it is available via the subscription service.
