The prominence of social media in our culture has come with both pros and cons as it relates to fans, seeing as there's a much more direct line of communication between audiences and actors. After he became the focus of harassment recently, both on social media and in person, Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard took to Twitter to reason with fans about respecting his personal boundaries.

Earlier this week, a tweet went viral which featured video of the actor walking past a group of fans on his way into his hotel room. While the user who posted the video has since made his Twitter account private, the tone of the tweet was that the actor was disrespecting his fans by not coming over to address them, while also claiming that his fans helped make him what he was.

While some users echoed the sentiments of the "fan," the response to the criticisms hurled at the actor was overwhelmingly negative. Most users called the person who posted the video "entitled," as they insinuated that they were owed direct acknowledgment by the actor.

Complicating matters further is that fact that Wolfhard is 14, while the user who posted the video was an adult, creating an uncomfortable situation in which many felt the minor was being preyed upon.

Wolfhard made it a point to incorporate his young co-stars in the tweet, but most Twitter users were well-aware of the specific viral video that had been making the rounds.

Following the debut of Stranger Things last summer, the cast has become some of the most sought-after young talents in Hollywood, with their social media accounts gaining millions of followers. Wolfhard was also seen earlier this year in the latest adaptation of Stephen King's IT.

Season 2 of Stranger Things is now streaming on Netflix.
