James Gunn isn’t lying to you about that Guardians of the Galaxy Easter egg — and if it turns out he is, one fan will be $100,000 richer.
Around the time Guardians of the Galaxy came to Blu-ray, filmmaker James Gunn told ComicBook.com that, yes, there were still Easter eggs nobody had spotted yet.

” There’s definitely one really big thing that people haven’t seen, but they may never see it — we’ll see. There’s other things, too,” he said at the time, citing a then-recent example of something that had just been uncovered.
A comment like that, of course, is bound to set off a flurry of speculation — but in the time since that interview (and a bunch of others like it, where he said similar things), nobody has managed to figure out what the “big Easter egg” is, despite some pretty heroic efforts.
Unsurprisingly, this means that occasionally you’ll get fans who just don’t believe it exists at all. Such a fan made his voice heard during a recent Q&A with Gunn on Facebook.
“Do you plan on revealing the big easter egg from Guardians?” one fan asked. When Gunn said he didn’t, another chimed in, “He won’t reveal it because it doesn’t exist. The ultimate troll.” Gunn’s response…?
Gunn, more than almost any of Marvel’s directors, seems to take pride in retaining a lot of his indie sensibilities, so if anybody was going to be the guy to put up those kinds of stakes, he’s the one. Still, it’s hard to prove a negative so at some point it seems likely he’ll have to acknowledge, “Yep, that’s the one.”
Of course, if Moores was bored and rich, he could plausibly try to take Gunn to court, and Gunn’s testimony would then be able to “out” the Easter egg for us…but that seems like a whole lot more work than just watching the movie again with a keener eye.
