Deadpool 2 Domino Casting Breakdown and Rumored Shortlist Revealed

We don't know who will play Domino, or exactly what her role will be in Deadpool 2, but now we know what the character will be like, at least. Thanks to That Hashtag Show, who uncovered the character breakdown, Domino has been revealed as a character very close to the mercenary we know from the pages of Marvel Comics. Fox is reportedly looking at any ethnicity for the character (she's presented in the books in all white and black artificially colored skin anyway). The full character breakdown reads:

"Female, All ethnicities; Late 20s – early 30s. Sexy, lithe and athletic. She has a witty personality. Neena is a no-nonsense badass who rarely shows her feeling. Highly capable, supremely confident and armored in . . . well ARMOR . . . and bullet-proof sarcasm. But beneath her shell she’s still and vulnerable and some soft, beating remnant of her humanity remains intact. In this scene we need to see both sides. When she can't get what she needs with insults, bluster and threats we need to see some of that vulnerability. It’s hard for her to let down her guard, and in the mercenary community she grew up in showing compassion is almost embarrassing. We should feel like she’d be more comfortable killing Silberman than saying “Please”."

The most interesting points of that include all ethnicities, the reference to her non-mutant name of Neena, and the fact she's been a near life-long mercenary. With the established Merc community of the first movie, it's easy to see that sort of character existing in this world. There's no mention of how she'll interact with Wade Wilson, Deadpool, or with Cable, who in the comics she has a longterm on-off romantic relationship with. The mention of "Silberman" is almost certainly a codename in the audition sides for the character; there's no such character in Marvel Comics. There is a crimelord called Silvermane, but he's a Spider-Man character that wouldn't be involved in Fox's Marvel character rights.

The other nugget THS dropped is in the actual casting of Domino. Reportedly, both Sienna Miller and Gugu Mbatha-Raw have passed on the role, and actress Kerry Washington, currently starring on the popular nighttime drama Scandal, is testing for the role. Washington would be on the older age range, as she's 40 years old, while Miller and Mbatha-Raw are both in their mid-thirties (though no one is likely to say Washington can't pull off a "sexy, lithe, and athletic early 30s" character). They caution she is not cast, just that she's testing.

If Domino is testing, that makes it easy to infer they have a shortlist for Cable as well, as they'd almost certainly want to screentest the pair of actors for chemistry.

In the comics, Domino, Neena Thurman, is a genetically bred mutant with probability-altering powers; essentially making her extremely lucky. She's been a stalwart member of X-Force, as well as Cable's other team, Six Pack. She's also been associated with and even led Deadpool's own team, the "Mercs for Money."

Deadpool 2 is in pre-production now for a rumored early 2018 release.
