Jenny Slate Cast In "Venom" Spin-Off

It looks like Venom has brought on another star. A new report by Variety just confirmed Jenny Slate will join the spin-off with Tom Hardy.

According to the new report, Slate is being courted by Sony Pictures to play a scientist in the fim. The studio had no comment about the report when asked by Variety, but fans aren't surprised to see Slate up for the role. The actress recently gained critical acclaim with her role in Gifted and Obvious Child.

Casting for Venom has been a fast-moving one as of late. Tom Hardy was announced to play the film's lead when news broke about the spin-off's development. The actor will play Eddie Brock, and the character will be joined by other classic Marvel figures. Riz Ahmed has signed on to the film and is expected to be playing Cletus Cassidy. Michelle Williams is also in talks to join the film as its female-lead. There's no word on who Williams will play, but fans believe the actress might bring Anne Weying to life.

If you're versed in your Venom knowledge, then the appearance of Anne makes sense. Reports have said Williams is up to play Hardy's love interest who doubles as an attorney in the fim. Marvel's comics introduces Weying as a lawyer who married Brock and eventually came into contact with Venom symbiote to become She-Venom.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, production on Venom is expected to begin in October. The movie will be a part of the same Spider-Man-adjacent shared Marvel Comics universe as Silver and Black, Sony's upcoming film about Silver Sable and Black Cat.

The Venom movie is said to be a gritty, horror-inspired take on the Marvel anti-hero.
