The blue aliens known as the Kree are making their return to Agents of SHIELD in the show's fifth season.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD star Clark Gregg confirmed to ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con that the aliens will be a part of show's upcoming season.
The Kree have a long history with Agents of SHIELD, ever since it was revealed that Nick Fury used Kree DNA as part of SHIELD's TAHITI program to revive Agent Phil Coulson after his death in Marvel's The Avengers.
That relationship only deepened as SHIELD learned more about the mysterious race of Inhumans, who were created by Kree visitors to Earth thousands of years ago. Two Kree even returned to Earth in an attempt to stop Hive, the incredibly powerful Inhuman who banished to another planet, when he returned to Earth.
The Agents of SHIELD may be visiting the Kree on their own turf this time around. Marvel confirmed that the fifth season of Agents of SHIELD will take the team to space for cosmic adventures.
The Kree are one of the most powerful races in the Marvel Universe. They appeared in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the villain Ronan was a fanatic from that civilization who was determined to continue to wage war against the Nova Corps of Xandar.
The Kree are also expected to play a major role in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. That film will be a period piece set in the 1990s, but is inspired by the classic Avengers story "The Kree-Skrull War."
How exactly the agents of SHIELD end up in outer space remains the be seen. The tag to the Agents of SHIELD season four finale showed Coulson waking up for another day of work aboard a spaceship, but gave no indication of how he got there.
It seems likely to have to do with the mysterious group that took the agents away at the end of season four. Could this organization be SWORD? Fans are still awaiting the answer ot that question.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will return to ABC this winter.
