With the release of Avengers: Infinity War a little over a month away, the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t very far from fans’ minds.

Leading up to the release of Infinity War, the MCU officially has eighteen films under its belt, offering up a wide array of stories for audiences to take in.

With that in mind, some are sure to wonder exactly how the MCU’s films stack up to each other, and which one fans consider to be the best. Here at ComicBook.com, we have several different ways to calculate fan response, including the ComicBook.com composite, which takes into account several different factors. But we also have the ComicBook.com user rankings, which focus on how our readers rate the movies on a scale of one to five.

We previously covered how the films fall on our user rankings, but with the release of Black Panther, it’s time for an update.

So how exactly do all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films stack up against each other, according to our readers? Click through to the next slide to find out.

#18 – ‘The Incredible Hulk’

Fan Score: 3.53/5 from 1499 users

Remaining last on both rankings (amongst fellowย MCUย films) isย 2008’sย The Incredible Hulk.

Edward Norton had his hand in playing the role of Dr. Bruce Banner, and was joined byย Livย Tyler’s Betty Ross and Williamย Hurt’sย Thaddeus Ross.

The film has a bizarre sort of place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, seeing as Norton was ultimately replaced by Markย Ruffaloย in The Avengers. Still, the film has quite a fewย MCUย links, includingย a Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robertย Downeyย Jr.) cameo, and the reappearance of Thaddeus Ross inย Captain America: Civil War.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) desperately seeks a cure for the gamma radiation that contaminated his cells and turned him into The Hulk. Cut off from his true love Betty Ross (Livย Tyler) and forced to hide from his nemesis, Gen. Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), Banner soon comes face-to-face with a new threat: a supremely powerful enemy known as The Abomination (Tim Roth).”

#17 – ‘Iron Man 2’

(Photo: Marvel Entertainment)

Fan Score: 3.52/5 from 1574 users

Also falling in the same spot on both lists is the next film in theย MCU’sย timeline, 2010’sย Iron Man 2.

The film served as the first of theย MCU’sย many sequels, withย Downeyย returningย to his role as Tony Stark.

The film served as a bit of a touchstone for what was to come in theย MCU, largely thanks to its supporting cast. Gwynethย Paltrow’sย Pepper Potts got an increased role, and Donย Cheadleย made his debut as James “Rhodey” Rhodes (replacingย Iron Man‘s Terrance Howard). And of course, the film also featured the debut of Natashaย Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlettย Johansson), who since has become a fan-favorite member of the Avengers.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“With the world now aware that he is Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robertย Downeyย Jr.) faces pressure from all sides to share his technology with the military. He is reluctant to divulge the secrets of his armored suit, fearing the information will fall into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwynethย Paltrow) and “Rhodey” Rhodes (Donย Cheadle) by his side, Tony must forge new alliances and confront a powerful new enemy.”

#16 – ‘Thor: The Dark World’

(Photo: Marvel Entertainment)

Fan Score: 3.61/5 from 1696 users

The lowest Phaseย Two film in both rankings remainsย Thor: The Dark World – something that probably won’t surpriseย some.

After appearing in 2011’s Thor and 2012’s The Avengers, Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of the God of Thunder returned for yet another outing. The film was financially successful, and gave fans a look at another one of the Infinity Stones,ย but has largely remained forgettable in the overall MCUย pantheon.

For some fans, there is a bit of a silver lining, as The Dark World‘s stumbles paved the way for the reinventiveย Thor: Ragnarok. Ragnarokย even poked fun at its predecessor, in a cameo-filled scene that has to be seen to be believed.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“In ancient times, the gods of Asgard fought and won a war against an evil race known as the Dark Elves. The survivors were neutralized, and their ultimate weapon — the Aether — was buried in a secret location. Hundreds of years later, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) finds the Aether and becomes its host, forcing Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to bring her to Asgard before Dark Elf Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) captures her and uses the weapon to destroy the Nine Realms — including Earth.”

#15 – ‘Iron Man 3’

(Photo: Marvel Studios)

Fan Score: 3.66/5 from 1871 users

2013’s Iron Man 3ย remains next on the ranking.

The film gave fans a look at a post-Avengers world, with Tony wrestling with the destruction that he had a part of. Along the way, Tony is sucked into an entirely new conflict against Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin.ย

The film certainly has some bright spots, including Shane Black’s directing and Downey’sย emotional performance. Butย ultimately, the film serves as a sort of connective tissue between the MCU’sย phases.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Plagued with worry and insomnia since saving New York from destruction, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), now, is more dependent on the suits that give him his Iron Man persona — so much so that every aspect of his life is affected, including his relationship with Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow). After a malevolent enemy known as the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) reduces his personal world to rubble, Tony must rely solely on instinct and ingenuity to avenge his losses and protect the people he loves.”

#14 – ‘Black Panther’

Fan Score: 3.68/5 from 267 users

Surprisingly, Black Pantherย ends up at #14 on our site’s fan rankings, drastically off from the #8 spot it holds in the Composite Rankings.

After audiences fell in love withย T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwickย Boseman) inย Captain America: Civil War,ย Black Pantherย took fans to the world ofย Wakanda, followingย T’Challa’sย journey becoming king.ย In the process, audiences got to see some incredible visuals and production design, a slew of awesome female characters, and a breathtakingย villain in Michael B. Jordan’s Erikย Kilmonger.

Of course, these fan rankings are always in flux, so there’s a pretty good chance – considering how groundbreaking the film has become – that Black Panther will grow to have a higher rating over time.ย And it’s definitely worth noting that Black Panther only has acquired a small number of user votes in the month since its release, compared to the MCU films that have been around for years.

So if you think that Black Panther deserves to be higher up on this list, you should definitely head over to the film’s page and cast your vote.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King ofย Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.”

#13 – ‘Thor’

Fan Score: 3.72/5 from 1865 users

Next on the list is the Lord of Thunder’s MCUย debut, 2011’s Thor.

The Kennethย Branagh-directed film helped bring the character officially into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in an admittedly risky way. The film went from aย Shakespearanย family drama to an action-packed “fish out of water” story, all while furtherย fleshing out the lore of theย MCU.

Thorย gave fans their first glimpse of Loki (Tomย Hiddleston), who has since played a core part in theย MCU’sย shenanigans. And the film also introduced Clint Barton/Hawkeyeย (Jeremyย Renner) and Philย Coulsonย (Clark Gregg), who both have become favorites amongstย MCUย fans.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“As the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), king of the Norse gods, Thor (Chrisย Hemsworth) will soon inherit the throne ofย Asgardย from his aging father. However, on the day that he is to be crowned, Thor reacts with brutality when the gods’ enemies, the Frost Giants, enter the palace in violation of their treaty. As punishment, Odin banishes Thor to Earth. While Loki (Tomย Hiddleston), Thor’s brother, plots mischief inย Asgard, Thor, now stripped of his powers, faces his greatest threat.”

#12 – ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

Fan Score: 3.75/5 from 2100 users

Next on the list is another MCUย origin story – Captain America:ย The First Avenger.

The film followed Steve Rogers (Chris Evans),ย a young man who is injected with a super serum that turns him into Captain America. Steve is plunged into a conflict against the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), all while becoming an American hero in the process.

The First Avengerย has become a pretty big jumping off point for the rest of theย MCU, largely thanks to the debut of bothย Evans’ Steve Rogers and Sebastian Stan’sย Buckyย Barnes. It also inspired one of the most beloved Marvel television series, withย Hayleyย Atwellย ultimately reprising her Peggy Carter role inย Agent Carter.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“It is 1941 and the world is in the throes of war. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wants to do his part and join America’s armed forces, but the military rejects him because of his small stature. Finally, Steve gets his chance when he is accepted into an experimental program that turns him into aย supersoldierย called Captain America. Joining forces withย Buckyย Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayleyย Atwell), Captain America leads the fight against the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization.”

#11 – ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Fan Score: 3.81/5 from 2351 users

Holding onto the #11 spot amongst all MCU films isย Avengers: Age ofย Ultron.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes faced off against a villain of their own creation, Jamesย Spader’sย maniacalย Ultron. Fans were introduced to future Avengers Wandaย Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paulย Bettany), and were given a glimpse of what to expect once Phaseย Three rolled around.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“When Tony Stark (Robertย Downeyย Jr.) jump-starts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chrisย Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Markย Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battleย Ultron, a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers,ย Pietroย and Wandaย Maximoff.”

#10 – ‘Ant-Man’

Fan Score: 3.85/5 from 2599 users

Marvel’sย final Phase Two film still holds the #10 spot on the user rankings.

After the massive scale ofย Age ofย Ultron,ย Ant-Manย provided fans with a much smaller (pun intended) alternative. Paul Rudd starred as Scott Lang, the former criminal turned size-changing superhero.

The film included just enoughย MCUย connections for a new solo film, including a standout scene involving Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthonyย Mackie) and the post-credit set-up forย Captain America: Civil War. Along the way, it introduced viewers to Hope Van Dyne/Wasp (Evangeline Lily) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who are set to return to theย MCUย very soon.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“With the ability to shrink in size but grow in strength, a con man (Paul Rudd) must help his mentor (Michael Douglas) protect the secret of his Ant-Man suit and pull off a heist that will save the world.”

#9 – ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Fan Score: 3.87/5 from 374 users

Falling theย furthest within the fan rankings, from the #2 spot to #9, is Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor:ย Ragnarokย completely revitalized the Thor solo franchise, thanks toย Taikaย Waititi’sย vision for a colorful, galaxy-hopping blockbuster. The film introduced fansย to new characters such as Tessa Thompson’sย Valkyrieย and Jeffย Goldblum’sย scene-stealing Grandmaster, and also provided fans with the Thor/Hulk buddy comedy they didn’t know they wanted.

In terms ofย MCUย connections,ย Ragnarokย provides just enough of what could be to come. Namely, there’s that mid-credits scene, which seems to hint atย Thanos’ arrival.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:ย

“Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerfulย Helaย from destroying his home and theย Asgardianย civilization.”

#8 – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Fan Score: 3.87/5 from 966 users

Next on the list – and holding the same ranking as Ragnarokย – is another one of the MCU’s 2017 ventures,ย Guardians of the Galaxyย Vol. 2.

After the original Guardians film took fans by surprise, the franchise came back to be bigger – and more emotional – than ever. The film’s merry band of misfits were sent on a unique cosmic adventure, one that brought them face-to-face with Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell).

Along the way, the Guardians accumulated a larger roster, with Mantis (Pomย Klementeiff) and Nebula (Karenย Gillan) officially joining the team. And of course, its hard to forgetย Yondu’sย (Michaelย Rooker) role in the film, and that iconic Maryย Poppinsย reference.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesomeย Mixtapeย #2,’ย Marvel’sย Guardians of the Galaxyย Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep theirย newfoundย family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”

#7 – ‘Doctor Strange’

Fan Score: 3.89/5 from 1511 users

Doctor Strangeย isย next on our list, earning a pretty solid rating fromย MCUย fans.

The film introduced audiences to Stephenย Strage/Doctor Strange (Benedictย Cumberbatch), a surgeon whose life-changing injuries bring him down the path of mystical arts.

The film was generally received by Marvel audiences, despite the whitewashing controversy that briefly surroundedย Tildaย Swinton’sย role in the film. Still,ย Doctorย Strange‘sย stunning visuals andย MCUย connections appear to have resonated with fans.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Marvel’sย Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities andย artifactsย to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.”

#6 – ‘Iron Man’

Fan Score: 3.96/5 from 3084 users

2008’sย Iron Manย falls just shy of the top five films amongst MCUย fans.

Robertย Downeyย Jr.’s first turn at the role took audiences by surprise, creating aย modern standout inย Marvel’sย previously scattered array of films.

Iron Man‘s connections to theย MCUย grow with each passing day, and there are far too much to list here. Either way, it’s clear that fans appreciate the Marvel film that essentially started it all.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“A billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, Tony Stark (Robertย Downeyย Jr.), is conducting weapons tests overseas, but terrorists kidnap him to force him to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he builds an armored suit and upends his captors. Returning to America, Stark refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.”

#5 – ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Fan Score: 4.05/5 from 628 users

Holding on to the #5 spot on the list is Spider-Man: Homecoming.

After his scene-stealing appearance inย Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland got a feature-length chance to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. While some had worried about Spider-Man franchise fatigue, it’s clear thatย Homecomingย didn’t have that problem.

Homecomingย gave fans a new context of the iconic character, following the challenges of Peter being a superheroย andย in high school. The end result was part superhero movie, part teen comedy, and a bunch of fun throughout.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace hisย newfoundย identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.”

#4 – ‘The Avengers’

Fan Score: 4.06/5 from 3501 users

Jumping two spots on the list is 2012’s The Avengers.

The movie saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroesย being brought together by Nick Fury, with the reluctant team tasked with defeatingย Loki’sย alien invasion.

The film gave fans plenty of amazing moments andย quippyย one-liners, and made an insane amount of money at the box office. And along the way, it completely changed the course of theย MCU, with the film’s “Battle of New York” becoming a seminal event in the largerย timeline.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“When Thor’s evil brother, Loki (Tomย Hiddleston), gains access to the unlimited power of the energy cube called theย Tesseract, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D., initiates a superhero recruitment effort to defeat the unprecedented threat to Earth. Joining Fury’s “dream team” are Iron Man (Robertย Downeyย Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Markย Ruffalo), Thor (Chrisย Hemsworth), the Black Widow (Scarlettย Johansson) andย Hawkeyeย (Jeremyย Renner).”

#3 – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Fan Score: 4.14/5 from 3746 users

Whileย Vol. 2ย scores pretty high on both rankings, the film’s predecessor does even better.

The 2014 arrival ofย Guardians of the Galaxyย took plenty of Marvel fans by surprise, as it simultaneously expanded theย MCU’sย cosmos and changed the formula for Marvel fans.

Along the way, audiences got their first taste of the charismatic performances from the film’s ensemble, as well as the impressiveย directing (and soundtrack selection) from Jamesย Gunn. And of course,ย Guardiansย gave us the biggest dose of Joshย Brolin’sย Thanos, further setting up hisย Infinity Warย tyranny.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:ย

“Brash space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted byย Ronan, a powerful villain. To evadeย Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoidย Groot, enigmaticย Gamora, and vengeance-drivenย Draxย the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb’s true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.”

#2 – ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Fan Score: 4.23/5 from 3421 users

Ranking second best amongst MCUย fans isย Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The sequel saw Steve Rogers adjusting to life in the present day, only for everything he knows to be uprooted in a government conspiracy. Along the way, fans were reacquainted withย Bucky, Natasha, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Maria Hill (Cobieย Smulders), and were introduced to Sam Wilson.

Winter Soldierย also hadย arguably the biggest impact on what had been established in theย MCU, thanks to the destruction of SHIELD. As fans ofย Marvel’sย Agents of SHIELDย know, the organization did live on, butย Winter Soldierย certainly changed the public perception of it forever.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“After the cataclysmic events in New York with his fellow Avengers, Steve Rogers,ย akaย Captain America (Chris Evans), lives in the nation’s capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow (Scarlettย Johansson) and a new ally, the Falcon, Rogers struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, but he and his team soon come up against an unexpected enemy.”

#1 – ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Fan Score: 4.31/5 from 4539 users

And finally, ComicBook.com readers have deemed Captain America: Civil War as the best MCUย film.

The film brought to life a storyline that many hadn’t expected to see onscreen, as the Avengers were torn apart by a battle over superhero ethics. The end result pitted Team Cap against Team Iron Man, and gave fans a fight they probably won’t forget.

The official synopsis for the film can be found below:

“Marvel’sย “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new statusย quoย fractures the Avengers, resulting in twoย campsโ€”oneย led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.”
