Simmons is out searching for an apartment for herself and Fitz. She thinks she’s found the one, sent to her via email, but Fitz is skeptical. Fitz is busy at work trying to figure out a way to cure their ghost victims without having to kill them first. Simmons finds the door to the apartment open and it looks like someone broke in. The lights don’t work. Simmons pulls a gun out of her purse. She’s surprised to find Daisy in the apartment, hurt and covered in blood.

Agent Coulson visits Elias Morrow, Robbie Reyes’ uncle, in prison. Coulson asks about what happened at Momentum. He tells Elias that if he helps SHIELD get to the bottom of what happened then there’s a chance SHIELD will be able to get Elias out of prison.
Agent May is being cared for by AIDA and Radcliffe. They only now tell her exactly how far they went in order to cure her of the ghost’s effects. Radcliffe is working with Fitz on a chemical cure for the “ghost virus” and leaves May in AIDA’s care.
Daisy and Simmons catch up while Simmons tends to Daisy’s wounds. Daisy did, however, obtain the apartment for Simmons and Fitz. Daisy shows Simmons a list of Inhuman assets and their numbers that she found on some Watchdogs. She insists that SHIELD must be getting hacked. Daisy wants Simmons to help her hack in as well. When Simmons says she can’t do that voluntarily, Daisy picks up the gun.
Coulson fills Morrow in on how his colleagues have been turned into ghosts. Coulson says he can’t talk to anyone else about the case because Elias put the only other person who knows anything into a coma. Elias refuses to help. Coulson meets Mac outside the prison just as Robbie pulls up in the Hell Charger. Mack recognizes him. Mack and Coulson get into Lola and give chase, with Coulson at the wheel. Robbie is pulling away but crashes the hell charger into the cloaked quinjet.
Daisy and Simmons are outside a building where one of the Inhuman registration databases is housed. Simmons takes it upon herself to, instead of breaking into the building, simply tell the agent to put the information on Daisy’s flash drive into the database, granting them access.
Fitz shows up at Radcliffe’s home and finds AIDA nursing May. Fitz is upset, but Radcliffe is eager to test how well AIDA performs.
Simmons explains that the wristwatch SHIELD uses to track and monitor Inhumans is for their own safety. Daisy isn’t impressed. They receive access to the database and find that the Watchdogs have access to information on hundreds of Inhumans, and the next on their list is JT James, the Inhuman who fell under Hive’s sway. Daisy hasn’t seen James since Hive died, and he got away from SHIELD as quickly as possible. Daisy is ready to go find him on his own, but Simmons insists they’re in it together.
The Hell Charger repairs itself. Coulson questions Robbie. He asks where Robbie’s powers come from, and Robbie again insists that he made a deal with the devil. Coulson, remembering that Daisy trusted Robbie, opens up Robbie’s containment unit.
Simmons and Daisy arrive at the fireworks shop where James is now working. Daisy wonders if it is smart for someone with James’ powers to be working in a fireworks shop. He says he quit using his powers cold turkey. Daisy explains the Watchdogs can track his wristwatch. He says he can’t take it off on his own and Quake uses her powers to knock it off. She explains that James still isn’t safe, but he doesn’t see the point in running. Simmons offers SHIELD assistance in moving on, but Quake offers James a role in her mission. James tells them to meet him at his storage unit later that night.
Coulson wants Robbie to prove that they’re all on the same side. He wants Robbie to wear a wire to talk to Elias.
Radcliffe, AIDA, and Fitz explain that while May is feeling better, she suffered some powerful brain trauma. AIDA recognizes a Chinese curse May utters and that nearly gives her away, but Fitz covers.
Robbie visits Elias, but Elias is smart enough to know him and SHIELD visiting on the same day isn’t a coincidence. Robbie asks for answers. Elias put Lucy Bauer’s, the ghost’s, husband Joseph into a coma. Momentum was building a quantum particle generator and wanted help from an engineer who wouldn’t ask too many questions. The device could create matter out of nothing at all. The generator blew up in their faces. Joe pushed the project forward despite Elias’ protests and got the whole team killed, which is why Elias beat Joe into a coma. Elias says Lucy would be after a book (the Darkhold) that told them how to build the machine, a book they were all obsessed with. Just then Coulson and Mack get an alert about an asset.
Lucy finds Joseph in his hospital bed and uses her powers to wake him up. She demands to know where the book is.
AIDA asks Radcliffe why Fitz lied about what she is. AIDA notes that she is programmed to never lie. Radcliffe tries to explain that not all lies are bad and that Fitz lied to save AIDA’s life.
James meets Simmons and Quake that night. Quake and James are ready to take the fight to the Watchdogs, but Simmons wonders if this is a wise plan. Suddenly Watchdogs pour out of the storage units all around them, and James reveals he’s working with the Watchdogs and that he hates having ever been gone through Terrigenesis. He agrees with them and thanks the Inhumans should be exterminated. Quake uses her powers to knock the Watchdogs down. Quake and Simmons run and hide in a storage unit while the Watchdogs and James give chase.
Inside the storage unit, Quake is in pain from using her powers. Outside, James uses his powers to roll an exploding bowling ball down the hall. He uses another one to blow open the storage unit Daisy and Simmons are hiding in. James grabs a chain and begins swinging it, but Robbie arrives just in time to snatch it out of his James’ hand, fire and all. Quake and Simmons escape while Robbie transforms into Ghost Rider to deal with James, whipping the chain around him.
Mack and Coulson clear out some Watchdogs in the Fireworks store. Simmons and Daisy find them there and fill Coulson and Mack in on James’ allegiance. Ghost Rider and James struggle until they both fall into the fireworks warehouse with…predictable results. The entire place explodes, and Robbie Reyes drags James out wrapped in a chain but still alive.
Daisy and Coulson share a tense moment and then lectures both Daisy and Robbie on how they need to work together to save everyone. He shows them the Darkhold, a book that even Red Skull, Daniel Whitehall, and Nick Fury couldn’t find. It’s a powerful “book of sin” with dark spells and supposedly infinite knowledge, and they’ll need to work together to keep it out of the wrong hands.
Coulson and Simmons go to Radcliffe’s place to take May home. Coulson introduces himself to AIDA. Coulson makes conversation, but Simmons immediately sees through the act. Now that Simmons knows about AIDA, her mandatory lie detector test tomorrow โ for that and other reasons โ will be a problem.
