It can be easy in this day and age of constant content to lose that sense of awe and delight when you see an example of artistic wizardry. Such wizardry resides in the impressive artwork of John Gallagher.

Gallagher, who also goes by Uncanny Knack, has worked in the art profession since 1996 when he landed a job at the roleplaying powerhouse, Bioware. He worked as the Director of Concept Art for eight years, and then went on to work on projects like Falling Skies, Once Upon A Time, Defying Gravity, and the beloved CW series The Flash.

All that experience has served him well, and each of his pieces blends realistic expressions and features with bold digital colors and beautiful backdrops. Some of these are works in progress, but Gallagher’s 1.0 starting point is what some would consider a great final product. His work features characters from a myriad of franchises and includes characters like Nova, Kylo Ren, The Tick, Psylocke, The Maxx, Optimus Prime, and of course The Flash.

Gallagher excels at giving his characters convincing effects for their power sets, which can be seen in Anti Venom’s spastic symbiote tendrils and in The Flash’s kinetic trail as he moves through the city streets. While he may not have any powers to draw on, that Snoopy Red Baron is just too amazing not to include.

He uses a combination of digital and analogue processes to create his work, and you can view more of it on his official website. If you prefer to follow him on Deviant Art, he publishes new work as well as updates to his previous pieces there regularly. You can also find some examples of his work in the gallery.
