Guardians Of The Galaxy Cast Crowns Groot Vs Chewbacca Winner

When it comes to Star Wars, there are few fans who can resist the charms of Han Solo's furry sidekick, Chewbacca. The same could be said for Guardians of the Galaxy fans when Groot gets mentioned. Rocket Raccoon's bestie is one of the franchise's most beloved characters, and his trunked limbs definitely pack a wallop - but could they fend of Chewie's blaster gun? In a fantasy match-up, it might be hard to figure out whether Chewbacca or Groot would win in a fight, but the Guardians of the Galaxy cast thinks their humanoid tree would win.

ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis attended Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Georgia this weekend where he had a chance to sit in on a panel featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy gang. It was there that a fan asked the group whether Groot would win in a fight against Chewbacca, and director James Gunn said he totally would.

"If it came down to it, Groot would waste him," Gunn said. "I'm almost insulted by the question."

Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu, said even Baby Groot could take the Wookie. "I have a feeling baby Groot would be able to…," Rooker said. "First off, [Chewbacca is] too hairy."

With his luscious coat, Chewbacca may be able to keep warm during the coldest nights on Hoth, but it would also give Baby Groot an excellent place to hide while he strategizes a battle plan. However, if the alien were to make a wrong move, Chewbacca would not hesitate to blast Groot into twigs.

The real match-up between the two characters would be when Groot is in his fully grown form. Fans saw in Guardians of the Galaxy that Groot was no pushover when it came to fighting. He could enlarge his limbs at will, take direct gunfire, and even skewer enemies with his prickly appendages. Groot's limited vocabulary was surely meant to handicap the hero because a alien of his size and power would be near invincible if could speak multi-syllabically.

However, the alien might find Chewbacca to be a worthy opponent. In the Star Wars universe, the Wookie is best-known as Han Solo's partner and occasional bodyguard. While Chewbacca's race is mostly a passive one, they do have extraordinary tempers which pair well with their innate strength. Wookies are very strong and natural-born warriors, and Chewbacca has honed his battle prowess through smuggling gigs with Han Solo.

But, like the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy noted, Groot seems to be the most likely winner should the two spar. Chewbacca does have plenty of experience fighting off aliens, but Groot is a rather persistent fellow who cannot die.

Plus, Rocket Raccoon wouldn't take too well to Chewbacca should the Wookie smackdown his potted partner. While Han Solo is a reputed badass, the space cowboy would flounder against Drax, Gamora, and more if they all had to intervene.
