Ever since Marvel Studios delved into the Marvel Cosmic Universe, fans have been wondering whether Nova will make an appearance in its cinematic universe. Since Guardians of the Galaxy debuted back in 2014, moviegoers have combed over the film for easter eggs or teasers which refer to the intergalactic hero - but they have had a little luck. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to hit theaters next year, fans were disappointed to learn Nova would not appear in the film either, but he may make an appearance in the franchise one day.
UP NEXT: No Nova For Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
In a recent interview with Super Interessante, director James Gunn discussed whether Nova would be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe one day. "You know, I think Nova is a great character. He may definitely show up at some point in the future," he said. "It will not be in Guardians 2, but at some point."
Of course, fans already knew the latest space superhero romp would not feature the Nova Corps officer. In 2014, Gunn told SlashFilm he had no intention to bring the hero to life in the sequel.
"I don't want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans… I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn't serve the movie right this moment."
Fans had hoped Gunn would change his mind about the hero's inclusion, but it looks like no such thing happened. For now, Rich Rider or his successor Sam Alexander will keep their noses out of the MCU to give Star-Lord space to operate. However, the Nova Corps may be seen again after the organization first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy a few years back.
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
