As those who have seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 know, the Taserface character portrayed by Chris Sullivan was a menacing, purple-skinned creature with shiny teeth and a distinct facial structure. Early in the film’s production, however, the Taserface character had a different look.

As revealed on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn’s Instagram page, Sullivan’s character nearly dodged the hours in the make-up chair putting on the purple outer layer. Still, he appears to have been rocking the same silver teeth, some facial scarring, and one heck of a beard.

Check out the photo below.

“One of our many make-up tests for Chris Sullivan as Taserface,” Gunn wrote with the photo.

Outside of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Sullivan is best known for his roles in The Drop, This Is Us, and Imperium. He has also made several appearances on AMC’s The Walking Dead recap show Talking Dead.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available on blu-ray now, with a third installment due for the franchise at an unnamed date, and the film’s cosmic roster of characters set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War in May of 2018.
