Through nine films as the X-Men character, Jackman will almost certainly have to sport the look he is best known for in Marvel Comics books, right? The odds look to be in favor of the fans.
Mild spoilers for Logan follow.
At a showcase of 20th Century Fox's line-up of 2017 films (including Logan, Alien: Covenant, War for the Planet of the Apes and A Cure For Wellness), the studio showed off the first 40 minutes of Logan. In those 40 minutes, an interesting revelation was made: the movie takes place in a world where X-Men comics exist. Furthermore, the X-Men comic shown in one particular scene sees Wolverine on the cover suited up in his classic blue and yellow get up.
Why does this prompt our belief that Jackman will put on the suit?
The Wolverine design featured on the comic book cover in Logan means that the character has suited up somewhere along the way in this universe. Given its timeline of 2029, as revealed by director James Mangold, the Wolverine could have suited up at any point between X-Men: Days of Future Past's post credits scene and Logan's start.
The opportunities for the classic suit to fit into Logan are seemingly endless. Logan may have adopted the new look somewhere along the way while mutants were becoming extinct. Perhaps he started wearing the suit in the past and we will see a flashback sequence -- one which explores the death of all of the other X-Men (after all, we did see a lot of X-Men die in Old Man Logan). The suit was, however, not in the first 40 minutes of the film which were screened to the press.
You can expect additional teases of the Wolverine costume throughout the film -- which will only build more hope throughout the movie that we see it in action before Logan and Hugh Jackman's epic run as the character come to an end.
Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
