Marvel Studios is in full Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 mode at the moment, but fans are eager to see another of their upcoming properties get an official director.
That would be the Brie Larson starring Captain Marvel, which doesn't release until 2019. The good news is that there is plenty of time, but fans are curious as to why a choice hasn't already been made.
Variety's Justin Kroll summed up Marvel's feelings in a recent tweet about the project, saying "@khevey6 Marvel in no rush, waiting to get a script they are happy with. No need to rush since PANTHER, INFINITY and ANT-MAN come before it."

Marvel has previously said they are intent on finding a female director for the project, but first, they need a script they can fully get behind. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke on taking the extra time to get the character right, saying "With Captain Marvel, there's so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who've had that mantle that we've been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin," Feige said. "How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we're doing with the next Avengers movies? So really, that's what's been delaying that particular announcement."
Next up for Marvel is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
