The Internet is a wonderful thing. It’s a place where fans can congregate and celebrate all of their shows and films. Online fandoms for Marvel Studios have squarely found themselves a corner of the Internet where they swap stories, news, and fan-works. But, sometimes, a rogue rumors gets through. Now, Netflix is stepping out to correct any rumors which say the site is planning on suing anyone over its Daredevil series.

If you are not familiar with the debacle, then you will need to take a few steps back. Rumors began swirling that Netflix was looking into filing a lawsuit against a Bollywood production named Kaabil. After fans found out about the star-studded movie, Daredevil lovers began dissecting the ways in which the two were similar.

Looking at the projects, there are a few points of comparison. Kaabil tells the story of a young man who is tragically blinded because of a freak event. Their lives are then plagued by tragedy, and both protagonists go on to seek revenge against those who’ve wrong them.

At their most basic level, there is some level of similarity, but Kaabil and Daredevil are fundamentally different – and the latter wants fans to know that. The folks over at The Indian Express reached out to the site to ask whether Netflix was seeking legal action again Kaabil, and they go a big no. The streaming site was, “Netflix has no record of such a plan and we are checking into the source of this rumour.”

So, there you have it. Neither Netflix or Kaabil are preparing to lawyer-up. Recently, director Sanjay Gupta confirmed the rumors were preposterous in an interview with Mumbai Mirror.

“It’s a preposterous comparison because Hrithik (Roshan) is not a superhero in Kaabil. His character is a blind man who does what he does best. In Daredevil, the protagonist fights 30 people at the same time. None of that is happening in Kaabil. If they sue us, we will definitely fight back.”

If you look at the situation, there’s no reason for either party to seek damages from one another. Kaabil and Daredevil are inherently different. One is a romantic thriller while the other is a gritty, superhero adaptation. The projects may both have a blind protagonist, but that is about as similar as they get.

So, what do you think about this bizarre rumor? Did the Internet just get ahead of itself or do you think some fans were truly outraged over the ‘glaring’ similarities between the two projects? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
