Turns out Robert Downey Jr. doesn't think very highly of himself as an actor.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, the actor was asked if there were any scenes that he just didn't feel comfortable in, or needed another take on in the Iron Man suit. Downey Jr. then lets Fallon in on the secret to his success.

"Alright. First of all, my dirty secret is I'm not actually all that good, and I'm going to tell you why. They're things that most people, it doesn't bother them, like there's stuff that I bet, and look your an actor, I hate opening doors, pretending that you're surprised to see someone that has been standing on the other side of the door waiting for the cue for you to open the door and pretend you're surprised to see them. Also driving a car and doing a bunch of like "alright now, now do this and now do that" I hate it.

After voicing his displeasure with these scenarios, it was time to put Fallon through his paces as an actor in both of them, to hilarious results. It would be a struggle for any actor to give off the appropriate emotions during a car chase while also being gassy, so I give Fallon some credit for doing his best.
