'Silver and Black' Will Reportedly Film In Atlanta

Silver & Black is another step closer to production. A new report claims that the Spider-Man spinoff will begin filming in Atlanta next year.

Omega Underground reports that they have "confirmed via local sources" that Silver & Black will film next year in Atlanta, Georgia. This update comes on the heels of the announcement that veteran Marvel Cinematic Universe costume designer Ruth E. Carter -- who worked on Black Panther -- had signed for the film along with Sheena Duggal as visual effects supervisor.

The upcoming film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is expected to begin filming once another Spider-verse film, Venom, wraps production in February. With the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming expected to begin filming in June, Omega Underground estimates that Silver & Black will wrap filming in the spring. With filming information starting to emerge, fans can expect casting announcement so begin soon as well.

While the production and filming updates are encouraging for fans who had begun to wonder if the film was going to languish in development, there still has not been much in the way of information about the movie's plot. The film, which will feature two frequent characters in Spider-Man's world Silver Sable and Black Cat, has been said to have a "cat and mouse" type of plot. While that would be fitting given that Black Cat is a cat burglar and Silver Sable is a mercenary in comics, the film's director has also described her vision for the upcoming film as something more akin to a female buddy film, something along the lines of Thelma & Louise.

"I wanted to tell the story of two damaged women who are at war with each other but need each other to survive," Prince-Bythewood told Variety earlier this year. She also indicated that while she'd like the movie to have the same buddy film feeling, it would be much darker, focusing heavily on the characters' origins which includes the deaths of their parents.

Silver & Black is set to open in theaters February 8, 2019.
