Thanks to Instagram, we have our first look at Thor and Avengers star Chris Hemsworth in his new Thor costume on the set of Thor: Ragnarok, the franchise's third installment, which recently wrapped production.

Standing with those who are fighting to protect their sacred land and water. #nodapl #waterislife #mniwiconi @taikawaititi I would also like to take this opportunity to raise something that has been bothering me for sometime. Last New Year's Eve I was at a "Lone Ranger" themed party where some of us, myself included, wore the traditional dress of First Nations people. I was stupidly unaware of the offence this may have caused and the sensitivity around this issue. I sincerely and unreservedly apologise to all First Nations people for this thoughtless action. I now appreciate that there is a great need for a deeper understanding of the complex and extensive issues facing indigenous communities. I hope that in highlighting my own ignorance I can help in some small way.

The first thing to note is that - even though this is clearly Thor in his "relaxed" style of dress, the look of the armor is darker and simpler than his look in Thor: The Dark World. There are fewer crisscrossing bands around the chest piece, and fewer (and smaller) golden discs in the armor. The Gauntlets are also leather, not silver, probably allowing for more flexibility in the wrist. In short: this is a much more humble garb than we've seen from Thor, and carries much less of an "alien superhero" vibe than a traditional Norse culture aesthetic. Hemsworth looks like he could've walked off the set Vikings.
