Following the release of Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse, new concept images of the film's unfinished costume designs for a couple of the film's famous characters have hit the Internet.
Uploaded to Facebook by Costume Designer Joshua James Shaw, fans can see alternate costumes for Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Tye Sheridan's Cyclops. Fans so far have reacted positively to the pictures, going so far to saying they wish the concepts had made it further into development to ultimately feature in the film.
The costumes pay homage to X-Men's beloved animated series and comics as Cyclops is seen styled in the team's classic blue and yellow colors. Mystique, on the other hand, can be seen sporting a skin-tight bodysuit which features black and white paneling with matching gloves.
Mystique's concept costume seems to be a nod to the outfit she wore during her tenure with X-Factor. While the outfit does look battle-ready based on the picture, the concept does differ from Mystique's actual outfit in the film. Foregoing the more steam-line look, Mystique dons a tactical ensemble in X-Men: Apocalypse which pays homage to Dave Cockrum's designs.
As for Cyclops, the concept photos reveal Scott Summers in his famous yellow-accented costume. Complete with gloves, utility belt, and thigh garter, Cyclops' concept outfit is uncanny to Jim Lee's famous character design seen in X-Men: The Animated Series. Cyclops' standard red-quartz sunglasses also make an appearance to ensure that the mutant's destructive gifts are kept at bay whenever he's not battling ancient gods bent on world annihilation.
Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse has gotten mixed reviews from fans who, in part, wanted to see more of the team's archetypal depictions. While viewers got a glimpse of the X-Men's classic looks towards the film's end, much of the project showed characters like Jean Grey and Nightcrawler in standard, black tactical gear. Though the characters' did look great in the film regardless, fans are hoping that the next X-Men feature will showcase the superheroes' classic costumes more so.0comments
