Earlier this week, X-Men fans found themselves clicking after headlines when new reports about Michael Fassbender's schedule hit the web. Thanks to a cryptic tweet by MTV's Josh Horowitz, fans were left wondering if Fassbender was planning to reprise his role of Magneto in one of 20th Century Fox's upcoming X-Men titles. The studio is working on two films at the moment with New Mutants and Dark Phoenix in development behind-the-scenes. Now, the actor himself is talking about the possibility, and the interview has fans feeling shiny.
Earlier today, Horowitz's full chat with Fassbender was released by MTV. The new podcast episode sees the actor talk about his work on Alien: Covenant, but Fassbender does take a moment to talk X-Men when asked. After Horowitz talked summer cocktails, the MTV insider asked Fassbender if he would be popping into any of Fox's future X-Men flick.
"Possibly, yeah - likely," Fassbender relented. When Horowitz then asked the actor to blink for Dark Phoenix or New Mutants, things got a bit weird. Fans can't see the actor's response since the interview was done as a podcast, but Horowitz told fans he's getting the vibe that Dark Phoenix is the actor's best bet.
Earlier today, producer Hutch Parker did confirm that the most recent X-Men generation would have characters return in Dark Phoenix. During a chat with CinemaBlend, the producer was asked if Fassbender would return in particular. Here is what Parker had to say:
"I'd rather not confirm any of those officially, but yes, the current story that we're working on has that group involved as well as some of the younger characters that we introduced last time."
