Flash Gordon fans have long awaited to see another movie hit the big screen, and Sam Jones decided to give them an update on the project.
Jones, of course, played the iconic Flash Gordon in the film adaptation and is excited to see what rests ahead for the character many have come to love over the years. During his stop at Wizard World Nashville, he spoke to ComicBook.com's Chris Killian about the status of the project.
"It's common knowledge that FOX Studios, it's been there for I think going on for three years in development," Jones said. Usually, that's a term in the movie business when they use "in development' it means they don't really have the money, but we're talking about FOX. I hope it happens. They brought in John Davis as the senior producer. I talked with him a couple of months ago and it's still in development."
Jones knows the term reboot can be a bit loaded but is excited for it nonetheless. "It's a very sensitive issue when you talk about
When asked if there was an actor out there who could play the role, he quickly offered up the first and only choice.
"Oh absolutely, that would be me, Chris, absolutely," Jones said. "I told Matthew Riley, he's the executive who acquired the screenplay rights at FOX. I said whatever you need me for. You need me to play Flash Gordon at my age, you need me to play the Dad, or whatever you need me for, I'm on board."
Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their favorite hero hit the big screen it seems, but they can soon see Jones on the small screen thanks to his Life After Flash documentary.
"The original concept was the influence that the character Flash Gordon had on the world before the movie," Jones said, "and of course, after the movie came out the influence the movie has had on myself and on the world. It's the first time in my life that I’ve had an unrestricted platform to just be myself. I’m not worried about where the camera is or what I’m saying. It’s about my life with failures and successes. It’s going to be very rewarding and uplifting.
Life After Flash hits later this year, and fans can meet Jones at Wizard World Nashville this weekend.
