Guillermo Del Toro might help bring plenty of terrifying creatures to life onscreen, but fans just got a glimpse at the director's adorable side.

Del Toro recently took to Twitter to confirm a long-running rumor about one of his films, Pacific Rim. The anecdote claimed that Mana Ashida, who played the young version of Mako Mori, was unable to pronounce Del Toro's name, so he allowed her to call him "Totoro-san."

While the comparison between Del Toro and the My Neighbor Totoro character evokes a pretty adorable mental image, many fans had wondered for years if it was actually true. But thankfully, Twitter user Rich Evans was the latest to ask Del Toro about it, linking back to the initial Tumblr post.

It's safe to say that Del Toro's technique with Ashida paid off, as many consider the young actress' flashback sequence to be one of the film's most pivotal scenes.

The next chapter in the Pacific Rim saga, Pacific Rim: Uprising, will hit theaters on March 23rd, 2018. Del Toro will not be at the helm, with Daredevil's Steven DeKnight directing.
