One of 2025’s Best Horror Movies Is Coming to Netflix This Month

Netflix in the United States will be streaming one of 2025’s best horror movies only three months after its release in June. The length of time it takes for new releases to hit streaming services such as Netflix has varied massively in the past, but director Danny Boyle’s newest instalment in his iconic horror film series is taking basically no time at all to be available at home. As the highest-rated chapter of its franchise, the streaming release of this chilling horror movie is very exciting, and it’ll surely become one of Netflix’s biggest hits.

As confirmed by Netflix on X, 28 Years Later will be hitting the streaming service on September 20th. 28 Years Later is the third collaboration between director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland, following 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s Sunshine, while Boyle also adapted Garland’s 1996 novel, The Beach, for the big screen in 2000, too. 28 Years Later is also the third instalment in the 28 Days franchise, taking place almost three decades after the outbreak of a Rage Virus in the United Kingdom, and leading directly into a much-anticipated upcoming sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

Why 28 Years Later’s Netflix Release Is So Exciting

28 Years Later hit theaters on June 20, 2025, so its release on Netflix will happen exactly three months later. The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and newcomer Alfie Williams as father Jamie, mother Isla, and son Spike, respectively, all of whom reside on the tidal island Lindisfarne, which is periodically cut off from the mainland UK when the tide rises above a causeway. Alfie heads off to the mainland in search of a doctor for his ailing mother; however, he gets into some troubling situations in the process of finding Ralph Fiennes’ Ian Kelson.

It’s surprising to see 28 Years Later get a Netflix release so soon, especially since its predecessor, 28 Days Later, wasn’t available to stream anywhere until shortly before the recent instalment’s release. The news of 28 Years Later’s Netflix release comes on the heels of the first trailer for its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is scheduled to premiere on January 16, 2026. Releasing on Netflix in the United States will boost 28 Years Later’s audience ahead of the sequel’s release next year, so it is perhaps the best choice for the franchise.

What Other Horror Movies Are Becoming Available on Netflix in September 2025?

28 Years Later isn’t the only horror movie hitting Netflix in September 2025, although it may still be the most recent. Some have already hit the streaming service, so you can catch them at home at your leisure, while others are yet to be released. If 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, it’ll release on Netflix in April 2026, but it could also take far longer, like the first two movies in the franchise, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Until then, you can enjoy these horror flicks on Netflix this month.
